•A Chevy dealer released advance information on new options for the 2012 Corvette.
•A new High Performance package for the ZR1 has black cup-style wheels and Michelin PS Cup tires.
•An upgraded Z07 package for the Z06 adds the ZR1's Performance Traction Management.
DETROIT — Chevrolet plans to offer a variety of performance and appearance packages on the 2012 Corvette, according to early dealer ordering information. Among the options for 2012 are a High Performance package on the Corvette ZR1 and an upgraded Z07 Ultimate Performance package for the Corvette Z06.
Chevrolet dealer Ken Fichtner of Laurel, Montana, posted a lengthy list of new 2012 Corvette options and features on the Corvette Forum Web site. In response to an e-mail inquiry, Fichtner told Inside Line that the information "is accurate and supplied to me directly by GM as Advance Product Information."
Aside from the previously announced Centennial Edition model, perhaps the most interesting option on the 2012 Corvette is the ZR1 High Performance package, which bundles black cup-style aluminum wheels (19-inch front and 20-inch rear), Michelin PS Cup tires and a six-speed manual transmission.
For 2012, the Z07 Ultimate Performance package for the Corvette Z06 includes Performance Traction Management (previously a ZR1 exclusive), Michelin PS Cup tires, black cup-style aluminum wheels, Magnetic Selective Ride Control and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes.
A new Technology package bundles a Bose premium audio system with navigation, head-up display, Bluetooth and a USB port. Carlisle Blue Metallic is a new exterior color, and style-challenged Corvette convertible buyers may now choose a blue convertible top.
Inside Line says: Chevy is buying more time for the aging Corvette, and it's doing it the right way — by focusing on performance. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

@bman78: I hope so. The quality of the interior--or more precisely, the lack thereof--is the key reason I wouldn't seriously consider a Vette in the past. I really like the C6's exterior styling, but every time I've climbed into one I've really been let down by the QC of the cabin. The bolstering of the seats is comical for a performance car; hell, even my 15 yr old 993's Standard seats feels at least a generation or two ahead of the C6's. And even though I know I can order insert materials in grey or tan, black is still the dominant color; it would be NICE if there was a broader color pallette to choose from for the interior finishes. When Chevy did the anniversary C5 a while back it was actually a positive to see that interior in bland, plain-jane tans...at least it was a change from the long-suffering, tired old black.

I sell Chevy and from what I am told the interior is where most of the changes are going to be taken place. New nav and better seats where supposedly on top of the list.

I am so excited about this! The new corvette is going to be so awesome, but I sure hope they add some more horsepower along the lines of the ZR1. Don't get me wrong, the Z06 is plenty fast, but if you're going to change the body, might as well go crazy and do that too.
Man, I can't wait until my MI Dealers get this in. When they got the Camaro, I almost had a heart-attack.
miautotimes.com is already on top of this. What's the story, Edmunds? Catch up!

@stingray-
Spoken like a true fanboy.
As for the options, nice to see some in the name of performance instead of just a slew of stupid special editions. Unfortunately, the the one area that needs the most improvement (interior) is sure to go untouched. I really, really hope GM gets it right w/ the C7. Keep it light, keep it powerful, but for God's sake, up the build quality sudstantially. It's the one thing that's always held the Corvette back and prevented it from being a world-class sportscar.

I can't wait to see the performance improvement from the PS Cup tires. Good bye GT2 RS!

I love corvettes, but it seems the last trick up GM's sleeve is just to increase the tire width. As an ever further reaching reality for most, who can afford to replace them meats every 15k max? ughh... v8 fieros will suffice for now.

ok, good... but how hard is it to fix the seats + steering wheel. they already have the parts from the CTS-V

deanoflas, go take a look at a Mercedes C63's seats. Now those are nicely bolstered.
The Vettes seats are some of the worst I've ever sat in...but I guess to each his own. What's supportive and comfortable to me may not be to someone else.
